Adding to the research on Florentine and English elite family dynasties, Niccolò Armandola applies a new algorithm for detecting clans in kinship networks on Basel's elite families.
On Ocotber 30, the SUZ will hold its 2024 General Assembly. Welcomed is everyone who belongs to the Department of Sociology, from students to lecturers and staff members. This year, the “Departmental Teaching Prize” will be launched and a small standing lunch is offered afterwards.

Micol is a PhD student in Sociology and Demography at the University of Oxford and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research. In March 2024 she joined Prof. Dr. Per Block's team as a research assistant.

Anna Mann is leading the project «(Im-)Possibilities of Letting Life End» funded by the SNF. It investigates with qualitative methods how non-life prolonging treatment and care are made possible in daily clinical practice.

🍀 We are delighted to welcome Sarah Berkinshaw, a doctoral student in a sub-project of the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded: «Human Reproduction in Societies and Markets».
In her dissertation, Sarah is investigating the causes of gender segregation in academic subjects and subsequent career choices. In particular, she examines how preferences for certain subjects and professions are shaped by values and role perceptions that have developed through social background and gender-specific socialization.
Dear Sarah, we are so pleased that you decided to continue your studies with us after completing your Master's degree in Sociology & Political Science at @uzh.ch!
