General information on admissions to a Master’s program is available on the website of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Applications for enrollment in a Master’s program must be submitted online to the University of Zurich Admissions Office.
The Master’s program is a consecutive study program for both the major and the minor. A consecutive Master’s program builds on the curriculum of a preceding Bachelor’s program. The Department of Sociology allows students from a variety of study programs to be admitted to the master's program in sociology.
Admission to the Master’s program requires as a prerequisite
Admission to the Master’s program for a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in a field other than sociology can be made contingent on that student acquiring supplementary knowledge and skills, i.e. additional requirements or conditions may be imposed.
An admission with additional requirements allows holders of a Bachelor’s degree in a field other than sociology to catch up on missing competencies during the master’s program. Which modules will be made compulsory will be decided during the application process on the basis of the coursework completed in the prior degree program. The Department of Sociology cannot issue any legally binding statements on compulsory additional requirements in advance of the application process.
We recommend contacting the Sociology Department's academic advisor to discuss admission with a completed degree other than sociology.
For admission to the major (90 ECTS credits), we emphasize that at least the same or similar content achievements have been acquired in the Bachelor's program, such as:
If this content has not yet been developed in the Bachelor's program, these modules will be assigned as requirements upon admission.
