Sandra Gilgen is a post-doctoral researcher at the Empirical and Normative Knowledge and Data Centre of the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded | H2Rat the University of Zurich. She is also a post-doctoral research assistant at the University of Bern at the Institute of Educational Science, Department of Sociology of Education.

Sandra’s research interests include intersectional inequalities, distributive justice, discrimination and education. She studied at the University of Fribourg (Bachelor of Arts in the Social Sciences – Major: Social Work, Social Policy & Sociology; Minor: Social Anthropology) and the University of Bern (Master of Science in Education – Major: Sociology of Education; Minor: Sociology & Sustainable Development). Her PhD on distributive justice, which she completed at the University of Bern, was funded by a Doc.CH grant of the Swiss National Science Foundation. After her PhD, Sandra worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the department of Quantitative Empirical Research, Institute of Sociology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

She is currently focusing on the gendered ways that individuals are affected by new advances in assisted reproductive technology as well as the implications and effects of these developments on society as a whole.
