Felix Bader holds a Diploma in Sociology which he received from LMU Munich in 2012. He currently is a research fellow at the University of Mannheim. His work focuses on methods of quantitative social research, in particular experimental research (laboratory and online) as well as online research and process produced data. In the first workshop, he will convey the essentials of conducting experiments in online settings.
Philipp Chapkovski received his PhD in Sociology in 2017 from the European University Institute in Florence, with which he still is affiliated as a research fellow. His research focuses on collective sanctions, crime deterrence, microsociology of corruption and experiments. He will teach the second workshop where participants will learn how to conduct interactive online experiments using oTree.
Milena Tsvetkova is a computational social scientist. Since 2015, she holds a PhD in Sociology from Cornell University and currently is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. In her research, she employs large-scale online experiments, network analysis, and computational modelling to study fundamental social phenomena such as cooperation, contagion, segregation, and inequality. She will give a talk about “Social science research with games and gamification”.
Ulf-Dietrich Reips has a background in psychology. He received his PhD in Psychology from the University of Tübingen in 1997 and now holds the chair for Research Methods, Assessment, and iScience at the University of Konstanz. In 1995,
he founded the first online lab for experiments. His work focuses on Internet-based research methodologies, particularly Internet-based psychological experimenting, Internet-based tests, the psychology of the Internet, measurement, the cognition of causality, Social Media, and Big Data. He will talk about “Pitfalls of doing experiments online”.
Antonio Arechar is an experimental economist. He received his Ph.D. in Experimental Economics from the University of Nottingham in 2015 and currently works as an Associate Research Scientist at the Human Cooperation Lab at Yale University. His main research interests are in the areas of Experimental and Behavioural Economics, Microeconomics and Evolutionary Game Theory. He will speak about “How to Successfully Conduct Interactive Experiments in Amazon Mechanical Turk”.
