The course offers a framework where Master students can present and discuss the thesis they are working on within the chair (in their 'Forschungs-' or 'Masterarbeit'). Possible topics are those covered in the research agenda of the chair and may address but are not limited to methodological issues such as measurement, cross- cultural analysis or structural equation modeling, the study of values within and across societies, measuring and explaining attitudes and opinions in general and attitudes toward minorities in particular and survey research. The common working line across studies is the theoretically-driven empirical social research. Presentations are preferably conducted in English.

Ziel des Praktikums ist es, einen sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschungsplan zu entwerfen und auszuführen. Dabei werden – auf Basis der Empirischen Sozialforschung I und II – die Pla-nung und Ausführung einer sozialwissenschaftlichen Befragung praxisnah geübt. Die Ergeb-nisse der einzelnen Arbeitsschritte werden in Plenarsitzungen präsentiert und diskutiert. Da-zwischen arbeiten Kleingruppen an ihren jeweiligen Projekten. Das allgemeine Thema dieses Praktikums lautet: Diskriminierung. Innerhalb dieses Themas entwickeln die Studierenden ihre eigenen, spezifischen Projekte (Link zwischen Diskriminierung und Werten / europäi-sche oder nationale Identität / Religiosität / soziodemographische Merkmale und Autori-tarismus / Einstellungen zu anderen Minderheiten / Einstellungen gegenüber Euthana-sie). In der Planungsphase werden Fragestellungen und Hypothesen erarbeitet, ein Fragebo-gen erstellt sowie die Stichproben- und Feldplanung diskutiert. Die Ausführungsphase bein-haltet dann die Durchführung der Befragung, die Reflexion der Feldarbeit sowie die Daten-eingabe und Fehlerprüfung. In der Berichtphase erfolgt schließlich die Projektpräsentation und die Erstellung eines Projektberichts.
